Recent Read: Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell

This is a sweet story. It was not as captivating as North and South, but it was fine. I disagree with the preface that it is Gaskell's best-known novel, but I'm really not into it. It feels like the Pickwick Papers in that it is a collection of stories and difficult to fine a main plot thread. Cranford also makes me think of a lot of L.M. Montgomery's stories because Montgomery also loves to write about a place's country gossip. It was enjoyable, but far from gripping.

I read this a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed the style, but I agree that it wasn't entirely captivating. I enjoyed it though!
